Mechanical Design Engineer

We're seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in designing composite structures or aircraft design to join our fast-paced engineering team. This role is ideal for hands-on engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, building prototypes, and taking designs from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and refine metal components with a focus on structural integrity and performance.
• Develop composite parts and assemblies, ensuring strength, weight, and manufacturability targets are met.
• Create and iterate on plastic components using 3D printing and injection molding techniques.
• Collaborate with simulation experts to evaluate and improve structural designs using FEA tools.
• Lead design efforts from concept through production, balancing technical requirements with cost and timeline constraints.
• Build and manage complex CAD assemblies, applying top-down modeling strategies for efficiency and scalability.
• Define and document mechanical interfaces and system-level integration points.
• Translate design concepts into clear product and subsystem requirements.
• Build and test physical prototypes to validate design intent and functionality.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to bring your designs into production.
• Produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation to support fabrication and assembly.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date bills of materials (BOMs) throughout the design lifecycle.
• Present design concepts, progress updates, and technical findings to internal teams and stakeholders.
• Take initiative in identifying tasks, solving problems, and collaborating with others to move projects forward.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Proficient in SolidWorks (2+ years) and mechanical drawing standards.
• Experience with composites, 3D printing, and machining.
• Hands-on prototyping experience.
• Familiarity with aircraft or UAV systems.

Preferred Skills:

• FEA tools (SolidWorks Simulation or similar).
• MATLAB/Octave, MS Office, and MS Project.
• Comfortable with light prototyping tools (e.g., drills, dremels).
